L-Carnitine is responsible for energy metabolism. It is a “transport molecule” that transports fatty acids to the mitochondria (the powerhouses of the cells), where energy production takes place. The heart, muscles and immune system have very high energy requirements and therefore depend on an adequate supply of L-carnitine. L-carnitine is a vitamin-like nutrient and is only conditionally essential (beef and lamb).

The body needs certain building blocks, such as vitamins and minerals, to produce its own L-carnitine. L-Carnitine:

strengthens the heart muscle and thus reduces the risk of a heart attack.
helps control blood sugar levels and elevated blood lipids (particularly triglycerides).
in cases of peripheral neuropathy: reduces triglyceride levels, as long-chain fatty acids are also transported to the mitochondria.
