Colostrum

“Colostrum” refers to the first milk produced and secreted by the mammary glands of all female mammals during the first 24 to 72 hours after giving birth. It provides newborns with optimal nutrition during their first days of life and helps protect them against environmental influences and infections. Over the course of a few days, the composition of colostrum changes until, after approximately five days, it has been completely replaced by normal breast milk.

Bovine colostrum is richer in nutrients than human breast milk. It has now been established that infants who are breastfed by their mothers develop stronger immune defenses later in life. Colostrum obtained from cows also has its specific effects in humans. This is because the amino acids, which do not differ between humans and cows, are ideally suited to the human body. The composition of bovine colostrum is almost identical to human breast milk, but it is many times more concentrated.

Colostrum has a high protein content and contains a wide range of immunoglobulins. It is also free from lactose, lactalbumin and other allergy-causing ingredients.
